The Dream
Parents kept asking me how they could meet or speak to other parents of children with hearing loss; but with HIPAA and the Privacy Act it is not possible to just hand out other parents' contact information. The thoughts of how I can get all of these parents together started brewing. Then one night, I went to bed and had a dream. In the dream my 3 year old daughter had hearing loss ...and in the middle of the night she crawled into our bed (as she did on most nights anyway)...except in my dream, she had in her hands a pair of hearing aids. She woke me up to ask me to put the hearing aids in her ears..."Mommy, I want to put these in so I can hear my dreams..." The next day, the Hear My Dreams support group for parents of children with hearing loss was born. Everything written on the About Hear My Dreams page and on the original flyer just typed right off of my fingertips onto the keyboard- it wrote itself. -Megan |
