Ms. Garafalo brings 33 years of experience working in urban school settings as a Speech and Language Pathologist and Audiologist, both as an active team member and independent consultant. For 12 years, Ms. Garafalo was the Speech and Language Pathologist for Worcester Public Schools until 1992 when she became their citywide Audiologist. She will bring her many years of experience to the next HMD parent support group to discuss important issues such as children with hearing loss in the public school system.

Carol Nelson and Nicole Salamy

Nicole Salamy graduated with a Master of Science degree from Boston University. She has been a speech-language pathologist at The Learning Center for the Deaf in Framingham, MA for 10 years. Currently, Nicole is also the Support Services Coordinator working with a team of clinicians including speech-language pathologists, physical therapists and occupational therapists. Nicole's experience includes working with a variety of children with hearing loss, some who have hearing aids and cochlear implants and others who do not. Her clinical work also includes working with children who have apraxia of speech, cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder.
Carol Nelson is the Early Childhood Director at The Learning Center for the Deaf in Framingham, MA. She has a MA in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University and a BA in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Colorado. Carol has worked at The Learning Center for 15 years, and was the founder of their Parent Infant Program in 1979. She is responsible for programs serving infants and toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten children. The Early Childhood Center at The Learning Center currently serves fifty five families from a wide geographic area.
Ms. Salamy and Ms. Nelson will be presenting on "Bilingual Educational Programming for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children."

January 8, 2013- Kathy Vesey
Kathy Vesey is Director of Gallaudet University Regional Center - Northern Essex Community College. The Gallaudet University Regional Centers (GURCs) offer extension courses, training workshops, and technical assistance to address the educational, transition, and professional development needs of deaf and hard of hearing people from birth through adulthood. Families and professionals also benefit. The Gallaudet University Regional Center operates the MA Family Sign Language Program. Kathy will provide information about the FSLP as well as the Shared Reading Saturday Program which teaches family members to read aloud with their children using Sign Language. She will also share a variety of resources available from the Clerc Center at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.
